Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?
An iceberg in the ocean is such a beautiful sight. We see this beauty for its appearance, mass and color. However, if we dive deeper below the sea, we can uncover more than just "the tip of the iceberg."
The mind has three different levels: the conscious mind, subconscious mind and unconscious mind.
The portion of the iceberg that is above sea level can be described as the conscious mind. This is where our critical thinking, actions, goals, willpower, decisions, planning, analysis, behavior and short term memories occur and are stored.
The water that separates the iceberg above and below can be referred to as a barrier/critical factor. The portion of the iceberg that is submerged in the water can be referred to as the subconscious mind. This is where personal beliefs, fears, cultural beliefs, resists change, imagination, habits, self-image and identity, non judgmental and memories are stored. Everything that the five senses (smell, touch, see, taste and hear) has experienced is stored in the subconscious mind. In between the subconscious mind and the unconscious mind, there is another barrier/critical factor. The remaining portion of the iceberg will be referred to as the unconscious mind.

The primary function of the unconscious mind is the ability to feel the emotional feelings that is experienced in the subconscious mind. The body chooses to react to any and every experience, such as trauma, which can include positive and negative experiences. The immune system, flight or fight mode and autonomic nervous system occurs in the unconscious mind. As for the barrier/critical factor that exists in between the mind, it acts as a filter and protects each part of the mind from accepting anything that might pose a threat to each part of the mind.
Hypnosis in itself cannot hurt a client emotionally, mentally or physically because the barrier/critical factors of the mind will always be working to protect itself from unwanted suggestions and threats that may pose danger to the client. The nature of the barrier/critical factor filters information and it will not let the mind accept things easily if it has no knowledge of it or new information that may go against the client’s beliefs, needs and wants, especially if it has a negative impact.

Hypnosis can be referred to as the underwater explorer. It can dive down to the depths of the iceberg, where we can learn more and explore. Hypnosis can dive in the deepest parts of our subconscious mind to improve, change, and eliminate the things that hinders the individual in succeeding in life. Hypnosis can help us penetrate these barriers/critical factors of the mind in order to make changes, alleviate and eliminate negative emotions, feelings and experiences.
